Open star cluster M41

UA 16-inch image of Messier 41

The bright open star cluster Messier 41 in Canis Major, shown in an R-band CCD image obtained with the UA 16-inch telescope. The field of view shown encompasses the full 20x30 arcminutes that the SBIG camera delivers on our telescope. M41 is a prominent binocular target 3.7 degrees south of Sirius, and just about fills the field of our camera here.
