Double star M40

UA 16-inch image of Messier 40

The wide double star Messier 40 in Ursa Major, shown in an R-band CCD image obtained with the UA 16-inch telescope. This one somehow slipped into Messier's list of nebulous objects - maybe there was dew on his eyepiece, or there was a coordinate transcription error and he actually had something else in view.
