The Ring Nebula, M57

The Ring Nebula (Messier 57, NGC 6720) in Lyra, seen in a three-color reconstruction from BVR CCD frames taken with the 1.1-meter Hall telescope at Lowell Observatory. The red frame emphasizes H-alpha and [N II] emission; multiple emission lines contribute to both B and V passbands. The blue color of the hot central star is apparent. The three monochrome images and their combination to make a color version are shown here.

The excellent conditions often found at La Palma allowed use of similar filters at the 1-meter Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope (JKT), operated by the SARA consortium, to get the data used for this rendition which is both sharper and, I think, more subtle in its color depiction.
