M81

The nearby bright spiral galaxy Messier 81 (NGC 3031) in Ursa Major, shown in a V-band CCD image taken with the 1.1-meter Hall telescope at Lowell Observatory. A logarithmic intensity mapping has been used to preserve detail over the wide dynamic range of this image, which covers a field 9..4 arcminutes square thanks to a focal reducer. The 1993 supernova formed a tringle with the two bright stars south-southeast of the nucleus, slightly north of the fainter foreground star.
