Globular star cluster M55

UA 16-inch image of Messier 55

The globular star cluster Messier 55 in Sagittarius, shown in an R-band CCD image obtained with the UA 16-inch telescope. The field of view shown is 15 arcminutes wide. M55 is especially noteworthy for its lack of a strong central concentration, helping to spread out the stars for a very striking appearance without blending many of the central stars into a single blaze.
