Open star cluster M38

UA 16-inch image of Messier 38

The bright open star cluster Messier 38 in Auriga, shown in an R-band CCD image obtained with the UA 16-inch telescope. The field of view shown encompasses the full 20x30 arcminutes that the SBIG camera delivers on our telescope. M38 is the northernmost of the three Messier clusters in Auriga; I always have to take a quick look to remember which one is which.
